The Gaze

Moving along the silent road in dark
I saw her shimmering loud and bright
Across the street, there she stood
We saw each other and for a moment we shook
Stared again with the glimmer in eyes
Wish I could just for the moment stop the glare
The world lit up with joy
Had this moment for myself to enjoy

Cuckoo bird with all its might
Flapping wings into the night
Into the thoughts here I plunge
Thinking of how this thought sprung

I look up again in her eyes
This time it’s sorrow and cry
Wondering what would have happened to her in the past
Took me aback and left me aghast
I see despair I see sorrow
Yes she could have had a different tomorrow

She stood there like stuck by Medusa
Her mask fell off without any surprise
She wanted to move out but couldn’t gather courage
Somehow I think she wanted me to compose this phrase
That instant I lost the touch of surprise
Moving back in time is what I reprise
She moved on not to be seen
Though in my thoughts she left a mirror so clean
